چکیده

Statins are the group of lipid lowering drugs commonly used to control cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Statins have structure similar to 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA)reductase and competitively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, which is the rate-limiting step in the mevalonate pathway, thereby reducing blood cholesterol levels. Statins have potential anti-inflammatory effect. Statins in systemic and local application enhance osteoblastic differentiation and bone formation by upregulating bone morphogenic proteins and by blocking the intermediate metabolites of the mevalonate pathway. Because of these effects statins can be used in treating periodontal disease and promoting periodontal regeneration. Pubmed and Google Scholar were used to search original research articles and reviews about statins in periodontal therapy. The keywords used were statins, periodontal regeneration, mevalonate pathway, HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. From these searches, a total of 25 publications were selected for this review.

Advanced tissue engineering in periodontal Regeneration

The old wishes of people were to regenerate lost tissues of periodontium that this fact is achieved by gen and cell therapy .Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammation around the tooth by microbes that causes destruction of supporting structure of tissue of tooth such as alveolar bone, cementum and periodontal ligament. For treatment of periodontal diseases we can use the biomaterials which ...

Current Concepts of Bone Regeneration in Implant Dentistry

Success of dental implants depends largely on the quality and quantity of available bone in the recipient site [1]. This however may be compromised or unavailable due to tumor, trauma or periodontal disease etc., which in turn necessitates the need for additional bone augmentation. Successful regeneration requires the essential components of cells, scaffold and signaling molecules. This is effe...

Stem Cells: A Promising Approach for Periodontal Regeneration

Introduction Periodontal regeneration is the reproduction or reconstitution of a lost or injured part of the periodontium so that the form and function of lost structures is restored. Many procedures have been attempted to achieve periodontal regeneration, including root surface conditioning, bone graft placement, guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and growth factor application. Current regenerat...

Autologous Stem Cell Application in Periodontal Regeneration Technique (SAI-PRT) Using PDLSCs Directly From an Extracted Tooth···An Insight

Periodontal regeneration represents the ultimate goal of periodontal therapy. The current regenerative techniques have limited success rates especially in advanced periodontal defects. Currently the research is focused on novel cell-based approaches for periodontal regeneration to overcome the limitations of existing treatment. The human clinical trial on stem cells based periodontal regenerati...

Autologous periodontal stem cell assistance in periodontal regeneration technique (SAI-PRT) in the treatment of periodontal intrabony defects: A case report with one-year follow-up

Numerous animal and human studies have provided evidence supporting the belief that periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) can be harnessed for regeneration of periodontal tissues. Based on current literature on the use of ex vivo stem culture and associated problems, this case report describes a novel approach of direct application PDLSCs using stem cell assistance in periodontal regeneratio...
